The Coconut Portal reimagines the coconut as a sacred channel between worlds - a bridge through which stories, wisdom, and energies flow across generations.Each coconut becomes a vessel of time-travel, connecting us to the ethereal world of our ancestors, grounding us in the present, and opening our imagination to a boundless future.
Suspended coconuts invite the audience into a sensory journey. When held to the ear, the shells echo with healing sounds ; ocean waves, winds, and ancestral whispers ; carrying messages from the air and waters. Looking through the coconut’s openings, one sees the world reframed through a new lens, shifting perspective and inviting reflection on interconnectedness and perception.
This experience draws from the coconut’s deep relationship with the community and land — its resilience, abundance, and role as a source of nourishment, healing, and livelihood. Each element comes alive through touch, sound, sight, and taste:
- Touch: Feel the rough fibres and soothing oil : earth and fire intertwined.
- Taste: Coconut water and milk : life-sustaining gifts of nature.
- Sound: A portal for ancestral and natural harmonies.
- Sight: A new way of seeing the world through nature’s eye.
The coconut becomes a container of life, perception, and renewal. When cracked open, it releases vitality and insight, reminding us of nature’s constant cycle of death and rebirth.
The Coconut Portal is a call to listen to nature’s messages that travel beyond words, flowing through the air, water, fire, and earth that sustain us all.
